Sitting looking out the window, nothing unusual over here, skies are blues, trees are blowing in the breeze, the air is clear, and the sounds of the children playing fill the room. Yeh, this is the visual and the sounds of what looks like a regular day over here. But it is not.
Last night, before we turned off the TV to the scenes of the protests and riots, our kids were curious to here and understand the details of what is really going on and why. The past few weeks we had been trying to keep the conversations light, as we were trying to sustain happy vibes for our kids' back to back birthday weeks. The night before that, we had already made mention of being safe and everyone coming in the house timely as the news reported protesting right up the street.
But are we scared of the protesters? No our fear has been here long before this moment. Its been here for years and years, for generation after generation. The fears and the anger we can no longer shield our kids from, in hopes that they are able to beat the system, and survive a human being who's heart and mind is trained to be against them. My heart is broken for these mother's, for these families, and friends. Its spreading like wild fires, the hate, the racism, the murders, the injustice. Who has the water to put it out? Can we?
We've been having so many conversations in these past few months as we were forced to sit still due to the virus pandemic and now forced to face the reality of the continued racism and injustice towards our people. Of course we have made sure to point out the differences we have faced and they might have to as well, and the extra safety measure we have to take as black people in this world. But we have more discussed more extensively with our 21 year old son more so than our now 11 yr old son and 5 yr old daughter. Times are changing now. Or actually the times just have never changed. Just like this virus pandemic has propelled the would be later conversations (like those about where to find the Will or the life insurance policies) to the present ones, so has this spread of racial inequality and the added recent murders of our Black men and women. What we didn't want to put on them at such a young age, we must now. We must now, for their safety.
Party on? How do we even carry on? With Renewed Strength, only God can provide. With His Peace, His Love, His Promises in mind. We have the talks, we sit at the tables, we challenge the system, we stand firm and push the change we want. We don't sit down. And we don't lose sight of our dreams, our passions, and we keep operating the businesses we have worked so hard for, or yes, even start the ones we have dreamed about for years. We still can. And we continue to teach our children what is good and right, fill their hearts and minds with the love and equality, and the morals and values we want to see. We Call Out racism and injustices as we see them, even among our peers, family, and coworkers. We support as best we can, We don't be silent and turn a deaf hear.
What will I do? I am going to refocus. Channeling in on the disguise on the true enemy that is trying to keep our young people under their thumb. I am standing on God's Word. I am fighting both fights. If we tackle the Spiritual, the Physical will line up. I know that physical work is needed along with Faith. And I am willing to work. And yes, I will vote! Will you? We must!
So Carry on. Carry on in solidarity. Fight the fight on your end too. And keep going. The world needs you, your purpose, your dreams, your plan, your vision, your business, You.
Everyone counts.
